I make my own soft food as you can see, its easy and far cheaper than the stuff you buy, I liquidize one loaf of wholemeal bread and dry it out slowly in the oven. This forms the base of the mix and will keep for ages, to this i add boiled eggs sweetcorn grated carrot and one capful of Brewers Yeast. The birds get fresh water every day to which is added liquid calcium and orega stim at the rate of 10ml calcium and 15ml orega stim per 5ltrs of water.( I use the pigeon orega stim ) I use VERSELE LAGA seed and products exclusively, the seed mixes are superb and quality is second to none. My main mix during breeding is Jo Mannes to which I add a little extra plain canary. Once the chicks are 5 days old I place a container of Jap millet inside the cage and this is fed until the chicks are weaned.

I never feed soaked seed or clipped oats, as this can lead to all sorts of problems.( I did try it ) When breeding, be very careful what you give the birds as a supplement ie vitamins, I have seen breeders constantly feeding vitamins through the water whilst breeding and losing chicks then pointing the finger at the hens, The idea of adding vitamins to drinking water in my opinion is to bring the birds into condition and by constantly feeding vitamins will do more harm than good.
